Design competition entry for a safe classroom setting during COVID19

During the height of the pandemic, there were multiple different design competitions for developing a safe way to interact in public places. This particular prototype design includes a holistic approach on how we can better clean surfaces and the air. Using an upper room UVC (2ft x 2ft) ceiling mounted unit with an up-draft ceiling fan, social distancing and consistent cleaning of the surfaces, I believe that you can achieve a much more effective way of reducing the chance of transmitting any type of virus. Most of the entries in this competition were of various plastic partitions. While partitions can be an effective way to reduce the transmission of viruses between people, they also introduce another surface that needs to be cleaned and they are not particularly aesthetically pleasing. Instead let’s focus on teaching children good habits for cleaning their work area before and after the use it. Upper room UVC is a long-standing proven method that is safe for people to reduce VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) in the air.
